The original ABCs of Death was a fun time. It took me back to the days of Spike & Mike’s Festival of Animation where animators put together some sick and twisted cartoons that didn’t last for more than a few minutes. While not all of them were poignant, some of the projects were actually meaningful in some small way. Furthermore, some of the contributors to the festival moved on to bigger and better things, like winning Academy Awards. ABCs of Death is similar in that each short film, which represents a letter of the alphabet, is directed by a different team and doesn’t last longer than just a few minutes. Now the sequel is on its way and is targeted for an October release (Oct. 2 on VOD and Oct. 31 in theaters). Judging from the trailer, it should follow the same format as the original. As long as the average level of quality among the films remains, then audiences should be in for a nice treat this Halloween season.
Synopsis
ABCs of Death 2 is the follow-up to the most ambitious anthology film ever conceived with productions spanning from Nigeria to UK to Brazil and everywhere in between. It features segments directed by over two dozen of the world’s leading talents in contemporary genre film. The film is comprised of twenty-six individual chapters, each helmed by a different director assigned a letter of the alphabet, beginning with the letter A and ending with the letter Z. The directors were then given free rein in choosing a word to create a story involving death. Provocative, shocking, funny and at times confrontational, ABCs of Death 2 is another global celebration of next generation genre filmmaking.
