I confess that I didn’t watch the original Sin City until it came out on video, but when I finally did see it, I watched it every day for a week. It was the best comic book adaptation that I had ever seen, despite not being familiar with the source material. The cinematography and art direction were so deliberate that the film could be nothing but a faithful adaptation. And despite a few performances, the actors all delivered comic book-like performances — all surface, no subtext. It was just straightforward and awesome.
Now Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is almost upon us, and ,from the trailer, it looks like the film will maintain everything I loved about the first film. Let’s see if I’m right when it releases on August 22, 2014.
Synopsis
Co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller reunite to bring Miller’s visually stunning “Sin City” graphic novels back to the screen in SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR. Weaving together two of Miller’s classic stories with new tales, the town’s most hard boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more notorious inhabitants. SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR is the follow up to Rodriguez and Miller’s 2005 groundbreaking film, FRANK MILLER’S SIN CITY.
