Katy Perry to be next ‘American Idol’ judge?

With Simon Cowell’s imminent exit from American Idol as the acerbic, yet brutally truthful talent judge, the show will definitely be in need of someone who can replace him and balance out the cheerleading. Katy Perry — the brunette pinup bombshell whose hits include “I Kissed a Girl” — was recently a guest judge on the show where she mixed things up with talent judge Kara DioGuardi.

From the New York Post:

“If I was offered that job as a permanent host, I would ditch my career and take on that career.”

Perry sure tried to prove during the LA auditions episode of “Idol” that she has the temperament to replace Simon Cowell as the honest-to-a-fault judge after he exits the show in May.

She even sparred with Kara in much the same way Simon used to needle Paula Abdul, who quit the show last summer.

The addition of Perry would definitely be interesting, but it’s still difficult to tell if her role as a caustic, critical judge would play as well as Cowell’s. Perhaps this is my own sexist views coming to light, but I think that people are more apt to accept a man’s harsh criticisms as a challenge rather than an attack.
