Accidents on the road happen all the time. Whether it’s teenagers driving recklessly, drunk drivers or someone falling off the back of a turnip truck, there are a lot of situations to be prepared for while driving. The last thing anyone needs is to be distracted from the road because they have to answer a text message or email on their phone. Wouldn’t it be great if there was an application that would allow your phone to read messages to you and even respond for you? Car and Driver and Chrysler have partnered to bring the TEXT-U-L8R mobile to market, which does exactly that. No need to pick up the phone when a text message comes in. Just let the app read it to you. A built-in reply can even be automatically sent out to whomever just messaged you, letting them know that you’re driving and will get back to them.

The TEXT-U-L8R app is available on Android and Blackberry phones only. For more features, a subscription-based upgrade opens up more voices, longer read messages and even voice-command responses. The app isn’t the most elegant looking and it would be nice if users could customize the auto-response from the standard, advertising-heavy one, but with these little niggles aside, the TEXT-U-L8R app is still worth your time to check out.
