Corinne Bailey Rae is without a doubt my favorite female recording artist and has been for quite some time. I remember catching her song for the first time during a drive home one night, listening to a local easy-listening radio station. It was Put Your Records On. It immediately stood out to me. It was unique, a little funky and most of all, it felt genuine.
Now I am not a music aficionado by any stretch of the imagination, but I know what I like. Most other recording artists sound affected to me — like they’re acting while they’re singing. Corinne is one of the few singers that makes me feel like she’s actually singing from the heart. I’ll go so far as to say that I sometimes think she’s singing to me — as creepy as that sounds.
If you haven’t already, you should buy Corinne’s first album which is self-titled. It’s one of those rare gems where every song is good. Most of all, the album kind of tells a story and it’s a treat to ride the ebb and flow of her musical emotions as she falls in and out of love.
Anyway, this was a long setup to point out that she was recently interviewed for Walmart Soundcheck, where she talks about her new album The Sea. As an extra bonus, you’ll get a free download of an acoustic version of the single I’d Do It All Again. Unfortunately, you’ll have to download it through Walmart’s site and they make you jump through a bunch of hoops and force you to register.
Anyway, the interview is definitely worth checking out.
