Dreamworks Announces ‘The Help’

Slated for 2011, The Help is based on a #1 New York Times best-selling novel of the same name. The film is set in Mississippi during the 1960s and follows one young southern girl’s dream of becoming a writer. Her name is Skeeter and subject matter, unfortunately, is controversial and involves interviewing the many black women who are employed by wealthy southern families as caretakers. During her interviews, Skeeter forms a friendship with one of the black women named Aibileen. Despite everything they risk in continuing their relationship, the two women forge ahead, bringing new stories into the fold as more women come forward to turn this small Mississippi town on its head.

The Help stars Emma Stone as Skeeter and Viola Davis as Aibileen. The film is written, directed and produced by Tate Taylor and is based on a book by Kathryn Stockett.
