Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer and Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela have teamed up for the soundtrack of Jerry Bruckheimer’s highly anticipated Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Per Mitchell Leib, President of Music and Soundtracks for the Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Group and Disney Music Group:
“We’d always felt it a creative necessity that the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 4’ score have an original sound all its own and to distinguish itself from the first three films. With the inspiring addition of Rodrigo y Gabriela’s unique artistry under the direction of maestro Hans ‘Long John’ Zimmer, this iconic score franchise take its next step forward with an imaginative, fresh and individual new sound.”
Details on the fourth installment of the Pirates franchise have been and are currently kept hush-hush, but as hinted at the ending of the third installment, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, it appears that Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is set to find the Fountain of Youth. Not only will the beautiful and equally rapscallion-esque Angelica (Penelope Cruz) join him, but (per trailers) mermaids, zombies, Blackbeard the pirate and likely others will also face during their adventure. For all of the many ways it can go, the rush of surprise, humor and tension will no doubt be well-aided by Rodrigo y Gabriela’s quick and rhythmic pacing and Zimmer’s epic orchestrations.
The soundtrack for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is set for release on May 17 wherever music is sold.
